To Whom It May Concern:

We are testifying in support of adding a platform plank for Stem Cell research and Cloning.

The Massachusetts legislature is about to present the Governor with legislation supporting Stem Cell research in Massachusetts. In support of that effort we propose the following addition to the platform text, "Part III: Health Care, Access & Choice":

"We support research on new medical technologies such as stem cells and therapeutic cloning. We support a ban on human reproductive cloning."

Stem cells, therapeutic cloning and other medical technologies could potentially greatly improve the quality and duration of life for Massachusetts' residents. We recognize however that there are limits on what should be permitted, and human reproductive cloning in particular does not seem justified given the ethical concerns and the lack of a compelling need for it.

Thank you for considering our opinions.

Sincerely,
