Regarding the Social Security plank:

Social Security is not in crisis, period.

Social Security is one of the most, if not the most, successful government programs ever run, and will continue to be healthy long after the robber barons currently advocating its destruction are in the ground. I say this as a person who just finished a pretty expensive education and is just starting out his career. The crisis is imaginary, fabricated by the Republican noise machine, in the interests of enriching the already wealthy and shredding the entire social safety net. Using even one Republican phrase in our party platform, on this of all issues, is completely unacceptable.

I believe the plank should read:

"We believe that Social Security is among the most succesful government program ever run. We support efforts to make Social Security funding more progressive, for example, by increasing the cap on income subject to FICA taxes. We believe that the greatest threat to the social safety net protecting senior citizens is rising health care costs. We applaud efforts to contain these costs and to strengthen Medicare, and provide a perscription drug benefit which meets most or all of seniors' prescription costs."
